Year 5 have had a fantastic couple of weeks. In English, they have really enjoyed reading stories from ‘1001 Arabian Nights’ and identifying common features within each story. They particularly enjoyed the story of ‘The Fisherman and the Bottle’ and re-wrote the story in their own words. They are preparing to create their own story in a similar style, focussing on the use of a cliff-hanger at the end and a moral undertone.
In science, children re-visited their predictions about which materials would be the best heat insulators. Much to their surprise, foil and foam proved to be the best materials for keeping a hot drink warm. This week, they worked in table groups to make crystals, using hot water, salt and food colouring.
Year 5 have been working hard at practising for their class assembly next week, where they will be showcasing their knowledge of Shackleton’s Journey. It is sure to be a brilliant performance so please do come along and watch if you can.
