Winning isn't everything, but it sure is fun

Well done to our girls' basketball team for winning a recent tournament!

On Wednesday, The Kingston Academy hosted borough Girls Basketball Tournament. Girls were selected from those who have been coming to Basketball club on a Monday afterschool. We had another tough group and played Alexandra in the first game and the girls quickly got into the rhythm of the game and beat them. Our next opponent, had won the tournament for the last three years and had won their first game easily - Latchmere. It was a tight affair however St Luke's were not behind at any point in the game and beat them 10 -12. We knew that beating our next opponent would give us a place in the final and this was Grand Avenue - another big school! The girls were extremely focused in this game ensuring they played to the game plan and ended up winning easily.

Our opponents in the final were Fern Hill who had won their group. The girls took the confidence from the first three wins and actually breezed through the final winning 14-4. St Luke's first trophy!

This was an excellent result showing the determination and team effort from all the girls as they played in teams of 5 throughout the morning. A special mention for Saoirse who was named player of our team and Victoria who, alongside another girl, was named MVP - Most Valuable Player for the whole tournament. They both have been invited to the Lions Basketball Club.

A truly fantastic morning for all!
