Friday 7 July
Mrs Linton talked to Year 1 about Australia as her family are Australian. When we looked at the globe we remembered the planets' path around the Sun and the Earth tilting, so Australia has winter when we have summer. We looked at a map of Australia and found out that most people live near the sea, so many children learn lifesaving skills. Alex tried on the distinct red and yellow lifeguarding cap. We didn't know that there were camels in Australia and we learnt about another animal - wild canines called dingoes. Uluru is the name now given to the vast sandstone outcrop in the middle of the Outback. We have also learnt to sing some lines from 'Waltzing Matilda', please ask us to perform for you.
The summer holiday is fast approaching and I'm sure that you will be picnicking on sunny days. What will you make to take with you?
Recipe from 'Perfect Picnics' by Lucas, Marsha, Florence and George :
First you put the butter all over the bread.
After we put the jam on.
Next we put the other slice of bread on top.
After we cut the bread into triangles.
Finally we get to eat our sandwich.
But watch out for those pesky wasps. They love jam too!
