Year 1 have been buzzing with creativity over the last two weeks. They made some amazing ocean collages featuring whales which were inspired by The Storm Whale in Winter. As the book is a sequel to the earlier one which the children know really well, they were intrigued to see how the story changed to the whale rescuing Noi. The children thought of other animals who could feature in a similar story and drew story maps to record their ideas. They added phrases and new vocabulary to link each part of the story.
In science, the children have been investigating camouflage and why this is important in the natural world. They thought of some amazing examples and used their scientific vocabulary to explain why camouflage can help animals to survive. They were then challenged to cut out the shape of an animal and then camouflage it against a piece of patterned wrapping paper. After looking closely at colours and patterns, they copied it onto the paper with some amazing results.
Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the RBK school singing festival and performed wonderfully at the live online event which was streamed from the classroom.
