With the end of the academic year in sight, the children in Year 2 are continuing to impress the staff with their enthusiasm towards learning. In English lessons, the focus text for the final couple of weeks is ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’ which is set in Kenya. The children have started to learn about and use speech marks in their own fantastic story writing and next week will be writing poems based on the 5 senses.
Kenya continues to be the theme in geography lessons. Over the past couple of weeks, the children have located the country on a world map, studied the climate and compared the transport and landscape of Nairobi vs Kingston Upon Thames. The children have also enjoyed reading fact files and other texts set in Kenya during reading workshop and library sessions.
In art, the children have been inspired by David Mach, the designer of the Out of Order sculpture found In Kingston. The children have worked hard to create brilliant drawings and collages of the 12 tumbling telephone boxes. The year 2 staff look forward to seeing the children’s homework linked to this sculpture next week.
