Year 5 have worked tremendously hard this term and have shown great enthusiasm towards their topics ‘Antarctica’ and ‘The Tudors’. At the start of the term, the children enjoyed a trip to the Science Museum for the 3D screening of a documentary on our southern-most, icy continent – Antarctica.
Throughout the term the children have also enjoyed participating in Upper Key Stage 2 challenges: Bikeability and visiting Richmond Park for weekly cross country runs. The children have made excellent progress in developing their stamina and were self-motivated in their drive to reach their personal targets.
Both classes enjoyed a trip to our local art gallery, Stanley Picker, to participate in a workshop exploring art within the home and create mixed media collages. As part of their Tudors topic, Year 5 enjoyed a trip to Hampton Court Palace where they developed historical enquiry skills, highlighting how architectural features and furnishings can be used to understand the rank and status of those who would have used and occupied the lower and upper parts of the palace.
R.E. topics this term have seen the children investigating the faiths represented in our local area and exploring the celebrations of Passiontide and Holy Week. This learning was supported by a trip to Cornerstone Church where the children participated in The Easter Experience. We are very proud of how tirelessly Year 5 have worked this term and we wish them a well-deserved and happy Easter break.
