  • A Westminster Adventure

The school council had a wonderful time visiting the Houses of Parliament. The tour began by walking past the Victoria Tower.

Interestingly, this tower is where every law is stored. The very old laws were written on crocodile skin!

Whilst taking in the size and beauty of Westminster Hall, the children were told that Henry VIII played tennis and held feasts there. As well as this, the Great Hall in Harry Potter was inspired by Westminster Hall. It was incredibly inspiring to learn that our group photo was taken in the same spot where many influential people have spoken: President Zelensky, Nelson Mandela and President Biden to name a few.

A highlight of the trip was sitting in the gallery above the House of Commons. There happened to be a debate about immigration in Scotland taking place. Despite only listening for a short time, the children noticed some of the MP's abilities in avoiding answering questions! To make this experience even more exciting, the children heard the 'division bell' ring. This bell tells MPs that a vote is taking place and they have 8 minutes to cast their vote.

The children behaved wonderfully, were super engaged and asked lots of fantastic questions. What a fantastic experience!
