  • World Book Day Comes Alive at St Luke’s

On Thursday, our school celebrated World Book Day with a day full of creativity, movement, and reading for a great cause! Thanks to the children’s efforts in collecting sponsorship, we were able to raise a huge amount (nearly £2000!) to help replenish and expand the books in our class and school libraries.

The day began with an energetic bounce workshop led by a qualified instructor from Bounce Beyond, where the children’s leaps and jumps brought smiles all around. Inspired by this year’s focus text, Dragon Dave the Not So Brave by Alex Latimer and Phillip Cullen, pupils took part in drama, art, oracy, and writing activities, showing off their creativity and storytelling skills.

Throughout the week, additional activities such as The Great Big Footy & Booky Quiz and live author events—including draw-a-longs and writing workshops—gave the children even more ways to explore books, characters, and stories, all supporting the National Year of Reading.

A particular highlight of the day was the Top Hat competition, where every child wore a hat inspired by their favourite book or character. The imagination and effort that went into each design was truly wonderful to see!

World Book Day at St Luke’s was a brilliant reminder that reading, creativity, and fun can go hand in hand—and we look forward to sharing the children’s work with parents at the forthcoming parents’ evenings.
