Friday 10 May
Last week, the wait was over as our caterpillars finally arrived! The children have watched in fascination at how quickly the caterpillars have grown in size and length. Reception have been recording the growth by writing simple sentences and drawing pictures in the ‘caterpillar diaries’ that they made last week. Reception will continue watching and recording the changes in the caterpillars as we eagerly await their transformation into chrysalises.
The children also went on a mini-beast hunt to see what bugs hide among the plants in the front garden. They managed to find all sorts of mini-beasts including spiders, slugs and woodlice. Reception found an interestingly coloured ladybird, which after some research back in the classroom they discovered it was called a 22-Spotted Ladybird. They were then challenged to write a sentence about an insect they had found in the front garden.
In maths, the children have been practising counting in 2s in preparation for our sharing and halving topic. Any practice of counting in 2s you can do at home would really support your child with this topic.
