Friday 14 June
It has been a busy fortnight within the Reception classroom, which has included the start of a new topic ‘mega-beasts’, two coach trips and getting ready for our class assembly on Tuesday 18th June. Reception have thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of our mega-beast topic which has included thinking of fantastic words to describe dinosaurs and other large animals. The children rose to this challenge and are continuously impressing their teachers with just how much they have learnt this year and how confident they are to have a go at writing long words like ‘enormous’.
The children thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Alice Holt Forest, during which they had to use their senses to explore the forest. This included using their eyes to spot which colours ‘camouflage’ into the forest floor best, using touch and their hearing to guide themselves along a trail blindfolded and exploring the forest floor to find objects that would be best to create an animal home. In the afternoon, the children excitedly completed the Gruffalo trail, which included using a map to guide us along a route where each character from the story was hiding. Reception were able to successfully complete this and were very proud of themselves.
Next week is Arts Week, all parents are welcome to come into class and talk about a country that is important to them or their family. If you would like to do this, please let a member of the Reception team know.
