Friday 18 January
After exploring lots of different traditional fairy tales last week, this week the children were set the challenge of creating their own fairy story. This began with deciding who the main character of their story would be and drawing them using oil pastels in their art books. The children then thought of a name for their character and decided what characteristics they would have. The next challenge was to create where their character lived. Reception decided they would like to create their characters homes out of junk modelling materials and worked hard to connect different boxes, tubes and tubs together to create castles, caves and magic wizards lairs. The class will now begin using their knowledge of phonics and tricky words to write a short story about their character. The children have now learnt all of the single sounds and will be moving onto exploring digraphs.
In maths, we have been using the tens frames to explore number bonds to ten. This has included games with musical instruments, dice and some fun board games. On the games table, our game this week has been dominoes.
During indoor PE, the children have shown off their balancing skills whilst using the high beam, low beam and benches. We have also begun using some of the apparatus in the school hall and they have really impressed the Reception staff with their fantastic listening.
