In science Year 1 have been learning about materials and their properties. This led on to small group investigations to predict and test the absorbency of a range of materials through a fair test. The children tested aluminium foil, sponge, fabric, paper towel and newspaper. Some children were surprised to find that foil was not absorbent.
Year 1 had a very interesting and exciting time at The Kingston Museum getting involved in a workshop about the local history of their hometown. Many facts were learned and particularly the reason for the three fishes on the school badge. However, the best fact was that mammoths used to roam Kingston and the children saw a precious tooth as proof!
Following on with our pirate themed writing, Year 1 have designed a sea monster to guard the treasure and written some imaginative descriptions.
