Friday 17 May
Year 1 are enthusiastic about their RE topic and have been fascinated by the different beliefs in Sikhism. The children have learned about ‘the 5 Ks’ as symbols that Sikhs wear to remind them of their faith. Artwork has been created to represent each of the 5 Ks. Year 1 have learned the Punjabi name for each item which begins with a ‘K’ sound. The children have learned about the special Sikh holy book called the Guru Granth Sahib and they have created their own special books themselves. They wrote about what makes them special, why their families are special to them and the things that make them happy.
In science there is great excitement as Year 1 have been monitoring the growth of their bean plants. Some plants have been a little slower than others to show changes with the roots making an appearance through the bottom of the pots first. This led to rich discussions about why some of the children’s plants have grown faster than others and what a plant needs to grow.
Year 1 are looking forward to extending their learning on this topic next week during our Outdoor Learning Week. Long may the sunshine continue!
