Friday 10 May
Year 2 are showing lots of enthusiasm for our new Humanities topic about Mary Anning. The class have had a show and tell session specifically about fossils and they have enjoyed bringing in their own examples from home and explaining where they were found. The class read, ‘Stone Girl Bone Girl’ and have spent time sequencing her life story, also describing how they think she felt at different stages in her life.
Over the last few weeks, the children have been working very hard on their reading and comprehension skills. They are now not just reading the text but also thinking about characters, plot and setting. Some are even recognising when the author is inferring meaning through text and illustrations. It is wonderful to see how motivated the children are about reading for pleasure and how keen to share their own books with the class, especially when they are topic related.
