Friday 10 May
It has been a busy couple of weeks for Year 4. The children are enjoying their electricity topic in science and have made predictions about whether they think a circuit will work or not. They then constructed circuits to see if the bulb would light. The class are now learning the circuit symbols and are beginning to test different materials to see if they conduct electricity.
On Tuesday, the children went on a trip to Haslemere Museum to take part in a workshop about the Ancient Egyptian Afterlife. The children learned about the steps of mummification and what the Ancient Egyptians believed happened when a person died. The children learned the belief that Egyptians thought that the brain was not an important organ and that people thought with their heart. Therefore, they would liquefy the brain through the nose and feed it to the cats! The other organs would be embalmed and stored in Canopic Jars, which all had lids with ‘heads’ of the sons of the god Horus. The whole process would take about 70 days and the person would be buried with belongings that would help them in the afterlife.
