Friday 15 March
Ahoy Year 5 parents! Since the last blog, the children have concluded their work on Shackleton and Antarctic exploration. The culmination of this work was the visit to the National Maritime Museum, in Greenwich, to take part in a Polar Explorers workshop. This involved a character actor playing the role of an explorer and examining precious artefacts, including a letter written by the hand of Shackleton himself. Whilst this was a wonderful learning experience for the children, the richness and variety of all of the other exhibits in the museum itself left many of Year 5 wanting to return again. It would make a wonderful day trip in the Easter holidays perhaps?
Year 5 also took on the role of their favourite literary characters last week for the ever popular World Book Day. It is always wonderful to see the huge amount of effort that is put in by parents and the children truly enjoyed the day. As well as dressing up, the children took part in a literature themed ‘bumper quiz’ with the Year 6’s, but perhaps the highlight was when they shared a story with the Nursery children.
