Friday 21 September

Welcome back! It’s week three and the excitement is already starting to build...but Year 5 have managed to contain themselves enough to get stuck into our topic for the term ‘Adventure is out there’. As part of this, the children have been thinking about maps and mapping, as well as adventuring into our Power of Reading text ‘Journey to the River Sea’ by Eva Ibbotson. We have followed the main character, Maia, to the Brazilian city of Manaus located deep within the Amazon Rainforest. So far, the children have written diaries and poems inspired by the text, showing off their fabulous writing skills-we are already very impressed!

In science, the children have already adventured within the school grounds, looking at the autumnal fruits and other products of the fertilisation process in plants. This then led to the children engaging in some observation drawing and painting of plants in the science lesson this week-the results were stunning!
