A trip to The Natural History Museum was certainly the highlight of last week for Year 3. The entrance to the gallery on an escalator traveling through a model of the earth’s crust had the children enraptured. The class enjoyed making connections to our learning in the Volcanoes and Earthquakes exhibit with an engaging quiz of facts on the world’s various types of volcanoes, their locations and last eruptions. Earthquake simulators provided the experience of a real earthquake. The day concluded with children taking on the role of scientists working to predict the severity of an eruption with equipment like seismometers.
Our museum trip was only the start of exciting events with more still to come as the whole school has now begun to prepare for the celebration of Christmas. With the season now upon us, Year 3 have welcomed the arrival of December with excitement and anticipation for Christmas! The class advent calendar has gone up and the children look forward to predicting the next part of the Christmas story to come out of the envelope each day. Individual Christmas ornaments have been made by each child bringing a unique shimmer and sparkle of glitter to the classroom carpet!
