Blog for Friday 13th September 2024

It was great to welcome the children back to school last week. They were full of excitement to start the new school year as well as being eager to share what they got up to in their summer holidays.

Our topic is English is ‘fairy tales’. Last week, we read several tales and discussed the similarities and differences of them. The children noted that most fairy tales have a useful lesson for the reader and they have a good and a naughty character.

In geography, the children learned that we can describe where we live in several different ways. Some might say their street name and others might say their town or country. This week, the children learned the names of the seven continents in the world.

During science, the children were able to recognise that some animal offspring look similar to the adult and some look different. It was decided that amphibians often look different as babies to when they are adults.

Place value is our first maths topic of the year. The children have been recognising different way in which we can represent numbers up to 20 and how we can count objects in groups of 10.
