Over the last couple of weeks, Year 2 have been combining their newly acquired knowledge of Emperor Penguins and information texts to create their own. The children learned about the different features of an information text and we discussed why these features are used. In class, we began by writing a couple of subheadings using ‘and’ and ‘because’ in our sentences to join facts together. We also included a picture and a caption.
In science, the children took part in a Brickies Club workshop all about habitats. We welcomed Brickies into our classroom last Friday afternoon and we learned about the different animal groups and what a habitat was. Using Lego bricks, we spent the afternoon creating an animal and then a habitat for it. We had to make sure there was somewhere for the living thing to sleep and something for it to eat. Our final creations looked amazing!
Our gymnastics lessons continue to be fun. Last week, we enjoyed performing some rhythmic gymnastics movements using hoops.
The focus in Year 2 at the moment is the KS1 production. The children have been learning the songs brilliantly and have been incredibly patient and attentive to the various stage directions given to them. We will be working hard over the next couple of weeks to ensure we put on an amazing show!
