What a lovely return to school Year 3 have had this week. In English, we began our new picture book 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit. The Gentle Mountain isn't what it seems – Vesuvius is erupting! This story follows Tranio and Livia, two children living in Pompeii at the time of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, will they be able to escape? We looked at different setting descriptions to identify features and then crafted a setting description to describe Pompeii before and after the eruption. We used our senses, expanded noun phrases, as well as similes and metaphors.
In Maths, we have been multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers using the short multiplication method. Short multiplication enables a faster solution to a problem rather than repeated addition. It is also important that the digits are aligned.
In Science we have been planning our own investigation into how different surfaces affect the speed of a vehicle. Friction, is a piece of Scientific vocabulary that we included in our predictions. Friction is a force between two surfaces that are sliding, or trying to slide, across each other.
We have started our new topic 'The Romans', to immerse ourselves in the world of Ancient Rome we have learnt about the legend of the forming of Rome. The dramatic tale of Romulus and Remus. The picture was taken in our PSHE lesson, in this session we created badges to celebrate the things we are proud of.
