Another action-packed week for Year 3 and what a half term it's been. The children finally got to work on creating their mini greenhouses after weeks of designing, planning materials and researching key features of successful greenhouses. Amongst the selected materials were CD cases, cling film, straws and lolly sticks. We were very impressed with both their design and creation processes and the finished pieces were nothing short of spectacular!
In science, the children have been deepening their understanding of the components needed for plant growth. With the use of 4 identical plants, they have been closely monitoring the effects of taking away sunlight, water or both and have not been surprised to find that the only plant to have grown at all is the one given both water and sunlight. They are very much looking forward to their trip to Kew Gardens to wrap up this science topic.
It has been wonderful to see the children take such an interest in their topic, India, this term, especially in the origins and history of tea plantations. In their writing, they explored reasons for and against buying fair trade products and wrote some fantastic, informative discussion pieces on the topic.
