Just like that the end to our very first full week of the spring term has come to an end, we have enjoyed settling the children back into life at St Luke’s and have been astounded by the growing maturity witnessed across both classes.
In English, we have begun reading our focus book for this half of the term, The Great Kapok Tree. The children have explored non fiction and looked closely at the language found within the book. Alongside ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ the children have had lessons focus primarily on grammar, this term the focus has been on the correct use of an apostrophe. As well as this learning children have developed their understanding and application of metaphors and similes when writing.
Multiplication and division have taken the centre stage of our learning this week, with the children learning and applying rules for multiplying numbers by 10 and 100 as well as dividing by both 10 and 100.
Our class trip to Kew Gardens is only a week away! The children are incredibly excited by the prospect of seeing some wildlife up close and personal as well as keeping a good eye option to witness the amazing butterfly emporium. Please send children to school with appropriate footwear. Children are still expected to wear their school uniform whilst on the school based workshops.
