Friday 10th Sepember 2021

It was brilliant to welcome the children back to school last week. They have entered Year 4 with great enthusiasm and excitement for learning after an action-packed summer holiday.

The Autumn term focuses on going back in time to the Anglo-Saxon period before moving on to the Vikings. This new topic began by understanding how the Anglo Saxons arrived in Britain after the Romans left. The children have had some interesting discussions about how to define an ‘invader’ and a ‘settler’ and what motives these people from the past had. This week, the children have eagerly started reading Beowulf in English. Without a doubt, this story brings the Anglo-Saxon period to life! The children have been practising using superlatives whilst creating their own hero.

Electricity is the first science topic of the year. The children have been asking insightful questions about how electricity works and have discovered how to stay safe around electricity. In art, the children have begun learning about African American artist, Henry Ossawa Tanner and look forward to recreating one of his popular pieces in the coming weeks. The children have been thinking about what the important qualities of working in a team are in PSHE.
