Minibeasts is a fantastic topic for engaging the children’s interest in all things yucky, slimy and creepy! They have thoroughly embraced their inner David Attenborough by lifting logs and getting close to their minibeast finds to investigate and identify what they have uncovered. In the outdoor learning area, a group discovered a small spider. By looking in the non-fiction book, they hoped to be able to name the type of spider they had discovered, but sadly it wasn’t in there. Instead they used the markings on the spider’s bottom as a prompt to name it themselves, “it’s a Golden Eye spider”.
The much-awaited delivery of caterpillars arrived in the classroom last Thursday. Some of the children decided it would be a good idea to write some warning signs to keep them safe. They created ‘Do not knock the pot’ and spoke to the class about being gentle.
In English the children are enjoying using the book ‘Yucky Worms’ for writing prompts and worm behaviour and habits. They have designed and created two huge and fabulous worms to display and are learning some amazing worm facts from the book too. The children made their own number tracks, a brilliant resource for playing a game with a friend!
