It has been a busy but enjoyable first term in Year 2. The children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to and writing about a variety of original and mixed up fairy tales in the ‘Once Upon a Time’ topic. Continuing the fairy tale theme, the children are very proud of their handmade fairy tale puppets and cannot wait to take them home to share with their families.
PE lessons have been a particular favourite for the children in Year 2. New skills and tactics have been acquired in both gymnastics and basketball leaving the children eager to continue improving their sporting abilities next term.
The geography topic ‘Magnificent Mapping’ has taken the children on an interactive tour around the 7 continents and the United Kingdom. Learning new facts and viewing the world through Google Earth caused great excitement and strengthened their understanding of the world around them.
Scientific investigation has been at the forefront of both our science topics this term. The children have worked collaboratively to make predictions, design experiments and come to conclusions in regard to the following questions; ‘Where in the classroom are the most germs found?’, ‘Are older children faster?’ and ‘Which ball is the bounciest?”.
Next term, the children can look forward to starring in the KS1 production and learning all about the Great Fire of London.
