In the first few weeks of the new academic year, the children in Year 3 have embraced the exciting changes that have come with their move up to Key Stage 2.

In the classroom the children have responded well to the high expectations set and shown eagerness for their new learning. With enthusiasm and focus, Year 3 have rolled into their first topic of the Stone Age. The children have made many connections to their learning in Science and the tools that the people would have used during the Stone Age. Through close observations of a variety of different types of rocks using magnifying lenses and drawing sketches, the children have discovered how to classify rocks as either sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.

The story of the fictional character of the Stone Age boy named ‘Ug’ has brought imagination and creativity to the written work produced. In their writing the children have designed their own Stone Age meals and written detailed instructions for how to prepare them.

Year 3 enjoyed creating pinch pots using clay and adding their own unique designs to them. Both classes have explored the timeline of the three periods of the Stone Age in different ways.
