Creativity and discovery have driven the learning in Year 3 this term.
Through an exciting workshop in September, the children travelled back in time to the Stone Age, engaging enthusiastically in their history topic. This included group investigations in which the children explored informative displays and artefacts which gave them hands-on experience of ancient technology and skills. The children came to school dressed in clothing reflecting the Stone Age and took on the role of hunter-gatherer people.
In support of our learning about rocks and fossils in Science, the children were visited (virtually) by three different geologists through the STEM Ambassadors program. Speaking to scientists and rock experts helped the children to understand the complexities of what is kicked around beneath our feet.
In the second half term, the teaching of the ‘Volcanoes’ topic was led by the children’s demonstrations of homemade volcano projects. The presentations of creative projects were given with pride as each child had the opportunity to teach the class.
Lessons focusing on the Christian community have been enriched by a visit to St Luke’s Church and a tour given by Father Martin. The children enjoyed identifying familiar stories represented in the stained-glass windows and recognising Christian symbols that we had been learning about in the classroom.
