Learning about the Romans has kept us very busy in Year 3 while learning at home and in the classroom over the last few weeks. Learning Latin has taken on a whole new context too! The children have enjoyed designing and creating their own Roman sandals during design technology lessons and creating paper mosaic designs in art. Meeting our local mosaicist (that worked on the Elm Road playground mosaics) to get some extra tips was a highlight.
Money maths has come alive through shop role-play involving adding the total cost of the items and calculating the change needed. It has been great to see the photos of the children’s shops uploaded on the Google Classroom.
The children are getting excited for our Roman Day on Friday which will include a special visit from the author of the Leopard in the Golden Cage. It will be interesting for the children to have the opportunity to ask her questions about the writing process and her ideas for this Roman historical fiction. Many Roman themed activities will fill the day for those learning at home to immerse themselves in Roman history and celebrate all of their hard work throughout this unusual half term.
