Blog for Friday 21st March 2025
On Tuesday, the children were treated to an unexpected visitor. Samuel Pepys paid us a visit! The class took part in several exciting activities throughout the day including creating a city scape of London, quill writing, a treasure hunt and some 17th Century dancing! A particular highlight was carrying out an activity in the playground to demonstrate the technique ‘chain ganging’ to put out a fire. Samuel Pepys was very impressed by the children’s knowledge of the Great Fire of London.
In art, colour has been our focus. The children built upon their primary colours knowledge to create the three secondary colours. They also learned that complimentary colours are the colours opposite each other in the colour wheel.
Symbols of Easter is now our RE topic. This week, the children ordered the events of the Easter Story and then matched symbols such as palm leaves, a cross and nails to the correct part of the story. The children were asked to justify why they had placed a particular symbol to particular parts of the story.
Maths has focussed on multiplying and dividing by two this week. The children have recognised that multiplying by two is the same as doubling and dividing by two is the same as halving. As well as this, the children have noticed that all numbers in the two times table are even.
