The final seven weeks of Year 2 began with the children creating their own African Savannah. We are currently reading a story, “One Day on Our Blue Planet in the Savannah” and to immerse ourselves in the setting we drew and painted an animal you would find in the African Savannah. Our English display is now home to a range of lions, giraffes and elephants!
This story links nicely to our geography topic this term which is Kenya. We located Kenya on a map and reviewed our learning of the seven continents and five oceans.
If that wasn’t enough, we had a visit from ZooLab! They came to show us several animals that you may find in Africa. For example, we met Flash, the Giant African Land Snail from Ghana. This snail was 8 years old and had roughly 20,000 teeth! We also held a cockroach and millipede as well as stroked a gecko.
The children are now over half way through their block of swimming lessons at Latchmere. It has been wonderful to see their progress. They should be incredibly proud of how they behave and how quickly they are able to change! Well done Year 2!
