Blog for Friday 20th June 2025
A highlight of the week has been visiting Kew Gardens. Here we looked around the Palm House, this is a grand Victorian glasshouse filled with towering tropical plants. It felt like we had been transported to a rainforest. The humidity hit us instantly, it was fascinating to see exotic plants like the banana tree and cacao growing right before our eyes. In our 'Plant Scientist' workshop, we learnt about different parts of a plants, the pollination process and even got to look under microscopes to observe plants closely.
In English, we are looking at the book 'The King Who Banned The Dark,' we looked at speeches to identify the features of a strong one and then wrote and performed a speech in the role of the king. During our speeches, we stated the reasons why he thought the dark should be banned. We used alliteration, the rule of three and persuasive and emotive language.
In Maths, we have been looking at data collection, each group selected a question to ask the class. Some questions included our favourite restaurant and favourite animals. We then presented this data in a pictogram in our books and using technology. We made sure to include a key to show what each symbol is worth.
