Blog for Friday 14th March 2025
The Year 5 children have been continuing with learning about the Titanic over the past couple of weeks by learning about the Carpathia - the boat which rescued those who were in the lifeboats. They have also started a joint English, Art and History piece of work by designing and creating a poster to advertise the Titanic by researching facts about the boat itself, adding watercolour and oil pastel and making it as appealing as possible to persuade people to buy tickets!
In English, we have continued our work on writing the next part of the book 'Cosmic'. The next step will be for the children to plan and write their own version of this part of the story. Last week, Year 5 celebrated World Book Day on Friday by reading with their buddy class- Nursery. They also took part in a range of focused activities with the aim to 'Read Your Own Way!'
We began our new Science topic on Space by participating in an online workshop delivered by the National Maritime Museum where the children learnt about the Sun, Moon and Earth in terms of distance, size and orbits. They have been completing some fantastic research at home about the planets and writing this up in a two page fact file this week and we will continue with this learning at the Planetarium next week.
In Maths, we have been learning about tenths, hundredths and thousandths in term of fraction and decimal equivalents and continuing with arithmetic skills.
It has been lovely catching up with you all at Parent Consultations this week - thank you for coming in and meeting with us.
