Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
In English lessons, Year 1 are continuing to enjoy the class book, Pattan’s Pumpkin, which is a focus for writing activities. To celebrate poetry day, the children took part in writing lines for a poem about pumpkins. The children included words ending in the ‘er’ suffix which they had learned in an earlier lesson, to write comparisons. Some examples in the poem included a pumpkin ‘bigger than an elephant and ‘juicer than an orange’. They really enjoyed reading their lines aloud to the rest of the class.
As seasonal change is a key component of the Year 1 science curriculum, lessons are planned throughout the year based on the children’s own observations and experiences. Last week, the children went outside to draw a tree in the school playground which has autumnal foliage. Showing focus and attention to detail, the children drew delicate pencil images of the shape of the tree and the tones of colour on the changing leaves.
In RE lessons, Year 1 have been reading two parables, The Lost Sheep and the Good Samaritan. Through discussion and role play, they have learned the significance of these stories to Christians.
On Friday, the children enjoyed wearing red clothing to school to raise funds and awareness of anti-racism education.
