Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
Year 1 have had a wonderfully busy week and loved sharing their learning in our class assembly. A lively performance of the song If I had a Rocket kicked things off, before the children whisked us through the history of space travel, including the recent Artemis 2 mission. We are so proud of the children’s blossoming confidence as they danced, sang and spoke to an audience.
In English, the children have been enjoying Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers and came up with fantastic ideas about what an alien might do if it visited Earth, using these to write persuasive pieces.
In maths, the class have moved on to multiplication and division, practising counting forwards and backwards in twos, fives and tens. The children also took part in hands-on estimation activities, making sensible guesses and then checking totals by counting in steps. In science, our focus has been on deciduous and evergreen trees. This is in preparation for our trip to Wisley on 1st July, where the children will identify trees and explore the many varieties growing in the gardens. We are also continuing to monitor our potato plants closely: the children have recorded observations and measured plant height and leaf numbers. As the plants are growing in transparent containers, the children can see the roots developing. They are all eagerly waiting for some mini potatoes to appear!
