Class update from Friday 17th October 2025:

Year 3 have continued to enjoy their investigations into their prehistoric topic. Since the class assembly showcasing their learning last week, the children have explored theories that historians have to explain mysteries of Stonehenge. Research of the ruins of the Neolithic settlement of Skara Brae will take their historical discovery further towards the end of the Stone Age and into the Bronze Age after half term.

Working scientifically, children have explored the process of fossilisation by explaining the stages, using diagrams as well as closely examining fossil replicas.

In art the children have made connections to their science and history by creating paints out of natural materials. Using onion skins, beetroot, spinach, red cabbage and turmeric soaked in boiling water, the children were amazed to discover the vibrant colours that could be created to use as paints and clothing dyes. Impressive backgrounds were painted for the next art session.

In maths, the children have been demonstrating their understanding of mental methods that could be used to add 1-digit numbers to a 3-digit number using known facts when bridging the tens. Colourful posters were created in groups showing their steps. Ask the children to explain their method to you at home!
