Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
It has been a very hands on, practical week in Year 4! In their DT lessons, the children have been putting their cooking skills to the test. After tasting different varieties of popular biscuits and comparing them, they followed a simple recipe to make plain biscuits. Next time they will think about what ingredients they wish to add to their recipes to tailor their biscuits to their individual tastes.
In science, the children have been discussing the properties of liquids and whether or not all liquids behave the same. To investigate the question ‘Do all liquids have the same runniness?’, they carried out an experiment using four different liquids: golden syrup, handwash, vegetable oil and tomato soup. Using a ramp, they placed measured volumes of liquid at the same start line and timed how long it took for each of the liquids to reach the bottom.
The children have been inspired by the poetry of Maya Angelou, particularly her powerful and moving poem ‘Still I Rise’. They discussed themes within the poem and familiarised themselves with its structure before putting back together a deconstructed version. Then they researched the author’s life and legacy, creating their own fact files in their English lessons.
