Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
Over the past few weeks we have been working hard on our assembly - thank you to those who were able to come and watch and those who supported the children in writing their parts for the assembly!
In English, we have been continuing to read our book 'The Last Wild'. This week we delved further into the forest where the main character of the boy met all the animals which are still alive. We used visualisation and imagery to bring this scene to life using chalks and pastels. Also, after writing, editing and publishing our newspaper articles this week, we are returning to 'Writing for Entertainment' by writing the next chapter. This is a difficult skill to add enough action to sustain the reader but not go ahead and finish the book!
In Maths, we are still working on written methods for addition and subtraction by focusing on solving multi-step problems and understanding how to find missing numbers in these types of calculations.
Our Design and Technology topic this term is Structures. After learning about bridges and how they are made stronger (through material selection, structural design, and construction techniques), this week have begun making our bridges from wood. This has included measuring accurately, cutting the wood with a saw, glue gunning the different parts together accurately and then finishing the piece well. We have been working in fours to each construct one section of the bridge and we will be putting it all together in the next few weeks!
We finished our first half term of gymnastics by completing squat throughs and straddle-overs and we will be continuing to work with Rian in Autumn 2.
