Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
Year 6 are well underway with their new topic “Tales of the River Bank”, having undertaken research to reinforce the processes involved in the water cycle before they plot the stages of a river as it moves from source to mouth. Why not dig out those maps and atlases at home to help your child locate the source and mouth of the River Thames?
Along with getting to grips with decimal arithmetic, and the components that make up a working circuit, the concept of ‘Suffering and Struggle’ was explored in RE, with children recognising the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus for Christians, bringing salvation and hope.
On World Book Day, the story ‘Dave the Not So Brave’ provided a source of inspiration. This text looks at how stories can vary depending on the perspective of who is narrating them; highlights the writing process and the importance of editing; reveals the message that your story can change if you wish to be different; a fun story with themes of friendship, asking questions and embracing change. The children fully embraced this by summarising the meaning of the story in a word, a sentence, and then a paragraph; drawing along with author and illustrator Rob Biddulph; writing their own stories to share with their Reception buddies, and designing dragon scales of happiness. They even had time for a bounce or two as part of the ‘Bounce for Books’ workshop!
