Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
A trip to St. Paul’s Cathedral earlier in the week allowed Year 6 to discover where bombs fell on and around the Cathedral during WW2; it helped them understand the impact of the Blitz on the City of London as well as appreciate why St Paul’s Cathedral is a symbol of resilience today.
The children have also reflected upon the impact that WW2 had on Britain and the British public in general. Using a range of sources, they have written to inform, creating double-page spreads that covered aspects such as ‘Operation Pied Piper’ (evacuation), rationing and the role of women.
As part of their continued exploration into light, Year 6 will soon be set the challenge of making a working periscope using mirrors. Thought given to the angle of reflection (knowing how mirrors can be used to change the direction of a beam of light) will be needed before they construct their designs and test outcomes.
The festive feeling has crept in to class, where the children have begun to use a range of sewing and needlework techniques in order to produce work for the fabulous Christmas hoops, which will be installed in the school hall next week. Without a doubt, they are to be commended for their patience and perseverance.
