Blog for Friday 28th March 2025
The last few weeks of term have flown by in Year 5! We started with our trip to the London Planetarium and Royal Observatory where we explored the universe, stars and the planets. We then took a deep dive into Mars and Uranus and learnt more about the atmosphere we would find on these planets and looked at footage of Mars taken from the Mars Rover. This tied nicely into our work for Science Week, later in week as we shared 'Curiosity' the story of the Mars Rover. In groups, we then made water purifiers from pebbles, sand, charcoal and large stones. We tested them out with some questionable water to see how the water looked once it travelled through - we wouldn't recommend drinking it!
In History, we have continued learning about the Titanic and using a diamond 9 activity to decide what or who we thought was to blame for the loss of life on the Titanic and then gave reasons. This was the basis for our class assembly this - thank you for attending! The children really enjoyed sharing their learning with you.
In English, we have planned and written the next part of our adventure story 'Cosmic' explaining what we think should have happened when the main character entered the car showroom. We pulled together our learning this half-term to write a range of different sentences types and structures.
In Maths, we have moved onto percentages and how they convert both to fractions and decimals.
