Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
For Year 1 this half term, PE lessons have focussed on ball control. The children practised rolling a ball, underarm throwing, sending and receiving a bounced ball. When developing these skills with their friends, they have been learning to collaborate and encourage each other. After half term, the children will be doing gymnastics lessons on a Wednesday afternoon and will continue with outdoor PE on Monday afternoon.
In RE lessons, Year 1 have been reading two parables, The Lost Sheep and the Good Samaritan. Through discussion and role play, they have learned the significance of these stories to Christians.
As part of the Ourselves topic in science, Year 1 have learned about their senses and which part of the body is associated with each sense. The children enjoyed an investigation to test their sense of smell where they identified everyday food and household items by sniffing samples in paper cups. Everything was covered up and no peeking through holes was allowed! Fresh ginger turned out to be a bit of puzzle – some knew the smell but were unsure of the name. Toothpaste was identified straight away.
For World poetry day, Year 1 children learnt the poem ‘The Brave Knight’ which links to our Castles topic. They were very pleased to perform the poem to Father Martin at his goodbye assembly.
