Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
Over the last two weeks, our Reception class has been very busy and enthusiastic as we explored The Gingerbread Man story through a range of fun and meaningful activities. The children thoroughly enjoyed making their own gingerbread men from scratch, carefully measuring, mixing, and baking the ingredients. They then decorated their gingerbread men with great creativity, developing fine motor skills and following simple instructions.
As part of our literacy learning, we read the story together and talked about the different characters. The children worked hard to write a list of the characters they could remember, showing growing confidence in recognising sounds and attempting to write independently. We also discussed how the Gingerbread Man might stay safe, which led to a fantastic design-and-make activity where the children created houses to protect him. This encouraged problem-solving, imaginative thinking, and teamwork.
In phonics and writing, the children practised CVC words linked to the story, particularly focusing on the phrase “run, run as fast as you can.” They enjoyed sounding out the words and applying their phonics knowledge in context.
