Class update from Friday 16th January 2026:

Happy New Year! It was great to welcome the children back to school last week.

A lot of our learning this term is based around the Great Fire of London.

In history, the children have been comparing what life was like in the 17th Century to now. They were surprised to learn that there was no running water in 1666 and most people had to get around on foot or by boat. This week, the children have eagerly been learning about the events of the Great Fire of London. They have considered the thoughts and feelings of Samuel Pepys and Londoners.

In PE, the children explored actions for different jobs people had during 1666. Every time they heard the beat of the music, the children changed action.

The children have been writing diary entries from the perspective of a London rat. They have been applying interesting features to their diaries including personification and onomatopoeia.

Elsewhere in the curriculum, the children have been investigating the properties of 3D shapes, sorting 2D shapes into groups based on their properties and they were even very successful at recognising vertical lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.

Well done Year 2 for a wonderful start to this term!
