Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
With the new term comes exciting new learning in Year 3. The children have returned with enthusiasm for our ‘Ancient Romans’ topic for the Spring Term. In the weeks ahead there will be studies of the ancient Roman Empire and its influence on the modern world through advances in technologies, architecture, literature and art. Through their writing, the children have been learning to construct effective sentences for a historical diary entry using the journal of a Roman slave for inspiration. Using conjunctions and structured ideas, the children have also written comparisons of ancient Roman gladiators to modern day football players. By exploring Roman mosaics, the children showed their creativity and a sense of wonder in designing their own colourful paper mosaics.
Further opportunities for creativity and learning about the Romans will come into PE lessons too as the children will be learning a Roman dance. In Latin lessons the children have been learning the names for animals through matching games and making connections to familiar English words which they have recognised having Latin origins. In the weeks ahead the children will select and include adjectives with their Latin animal names to begin to build extended phrases and compose Latin sentences.
