Below is our most recent blog. This includes a summary of the last two weeks including any important information for the coming weeks (reminders etc).
Since returning from their well deserved break at Christmas, the children in Year 4 have been working eagerly and are ready to take on the new challenges of the spring term. Their new topic, protecting our world, has inspired the children already - particularly in their English lessons where they have been reading the book ‘The Great Kapok Tree’. The book follows a story of a young axe man who has been sent to chop down a tree in the Amazon Rainforest but is faced with a dilemma when the animals who dwell there plead with him not to. They identified persuasive devices used in letters and are planning and writing their own versions in role as one of the Kapok Tree animals.
In science, the children have been learning about sound. They created comic strips to explain what happens when a drum is hit, from the moment the drum skin vibrates to the moment the vibrations enter our ears.
The children continue to enjoy their ukulele lessons and have been getting more and more confident each week. They also have the opportunity this term to take part in ‘Raising Young Voices’ every Friday, where they will be learning different songs.
