Class update from Friday 27^th February 2026:

The children in Year 5 were working hard during week before half term to complete their History learning on Tudors by thinking about decisions that Queen Elizabeth I had to make for the country during her reign at the end of the Tudor period. They learnt that some of the decisions she made changed the history of England forever. 

In English, the children made an excellent effort to learn the stories they were given the last week of term and while practising they worked hard on adding emphasis, change in volume and how to use their body language to engage the audience. All children told their story at the Storytelling event and a huge thank you for all the adults who came and supported this event. 

The children came back to school on Monday well rested and ready for Spring 2! This week, we completed our Science topic of Forces by learning about different types of mechanisms including pulleys, gears and levers. This knowledge helped us as we started our new Design and Technology about gears. The children have been investigating making gears using paper clips, card and corrugated cardboard and then evaluated how successful the gears were using the different materials and equipment. 

We have also started our History topic this term learning about The Titanic by completing a timeline of events leading up to the disaster in 1912.

The weather was beautiful on Wednesday for our second Cross Country trip of the term - let's hope for more sunny days to come!
