Class update from Friday 5^th June 2026:

Year 5 have returned from the holiday with great enthusiasm and are ready for their final half term!

In English, we have started The Journey, a story about a family fleeing war. We learned about refugees around the world, discussed reasons people may leave their home countries, and designed posters to support refugees ahead of National Refugee Day. We also explored the book’s illustrations and made predictions about the story.

Before half term, we completed our Kingston topic by carrying out a traffic survey on Elm Road and Acre Road. The children used tally and bar charts to present their findings and considered ways to make both roads safer.

In Maths, we have begun our decimals unit, focusing on adding and subtracting decimals. In Computing, the children have continued working with Micro:bits, programming them to measure temperatures around the school.

This week, we also had a visit from the school nurse to discuss puberty and the changes that occur during this time. In PSHE, we explored screen time and its impact on our wellbeing.
