Art Week this year has focussed on the theme of Kingston. In Year 2, the children have been looking a public art - what it is and where can we find it? Of course, the most obvious piece of public art in Kingston is the ‘Out of Order’ installation by David Mach. This installation is more commonly referred to as the ‘Telephone Boxes’.
The children started the week by looking at examples of public art and they created their own ‘falling installations’ taking inspiration from the fact the telephone boxes in Kingston look like falling dominoes. As Arts Week progressed, the children covered shoe boxes with papier mâché to prep them for being transformed into a telephone box. Next week, the children will be creating their very own class ‘Out of Order’ installation which will be available for you to see for yourselves at the upcoming Open Afternoon.
In other areas of the curriculum, the children have been working hard to build their confidence when it comes to telling the time. They have looked at o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past as well as identifying the numbers on a clock count up in fives! In English, the children have been writing brilliant Kennings poems about animals found on the African Savannah.
Keep up the good work, Year 2!
