Year 3 have enjoyed learning about British botanist Anna Atkins. She is acknowledged as one of the first women in the world to take a photograph, as well as one of the very first people to publish a book of photographs. To understand what her job entailed, we became photographers and learnt various photography skills. We also became botanists and pressed a flower with our partner to get ourselves into the role of Anna. This was to aid our diary entry that we wrote as Anna Atkins.
In maths, Year 3 have been looking at how many days there are in a year, and what happens when there is a leap year, as well as the months in a year. We created a box step dance to help us remember which months have 30 days in it. We have also been converting between minutes and seconds.
In science, we have been looking at how the muscles in our body work. The children identified and learnt how different muscles work including the cardiac muscle, biceps, and triceps.
For our DT project, we have been researching wearable technology. We have designed our own smart watch to solve a problem, for example a 'Gymnastics watch' that counts the amount of somersaults completed.
