A School Full of Problem Solvers

Today we welcomed the Problem-Solving Company to St Luke's for an exciting day of mathematical thinking and teamwork from Reception through to Year 6. Throughout the day, children were challenged to use their critical thinking skills, resilience, collaboration and physical maths to tackle a range of engaging puzzles and problems.

Each year group took part in activities carefully designed to encourage children to think deeply, explain their reasoning and work together to find solutions. The challenges drew upon knowledge from across the mathematics curriculum, including tessellating patterns, number bonds, multiplication and division facts, shape, logic and problem-solving strategies. Children quickly discovered that success depended not only on their mathematical knowledge but also on their ability to communicate effectively, listen to others and persevere when faced with a difficult challenge.

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and determination shown by all pupils as they tackled increasingly complex tasks. The sessions provided opportunities for children to think creatively, test different approaches and learn from mistakes in a supportive environment. There was a real buzz of excitement around the school as classes celebrated their successes and shared their solutions.

Events such as these help children to see mathematics as more than just numbers on a page. They demonstrate how mathematical thinking can be used to solve problems, work collaboratively and make sense of the world around us. We are grateful to the Problem-Solving Company for delivering such engaging workshops and for inspiring our pupils to become confident and resilient mathematicians.
