Champions at Kingsmeadow

On Tuesday, some children from Year 5 and 6 represented the school at the first ever Kingston Borough Athletics competition at Kingsmeadow organised by our own Mr Bates. The event is a round robin event where all the children take part in four events and score points based on distances and times.

The events were:

  • 600m long distance
  • 75m sprint
  • Standing Long Jump
  • Vortex throwing

All the children competed across the day with their scores calculated at the end of the day to reveal the overall winners. This event was slightly different as we were competing against other one form entry schools and after all the scores were calculated, we came first in the small schools category - a fantastic achievement! To finish 1st means a great all round performance from our team in all the events - they showed determination and resilience (especially in the 600m which is a really tough event!) throughout the day to put in some outstanding performances.

While this was a team effort from both the girls and boys there were some stand out performances and these included:

  • The boys came second out of all the boys teams overall
  • Adi came 4th out of all the boys (out of 52 boys)
  • Anya came 6th out of all the girls (out of 52 girls), coming 3rd in the Vortex and 4th in the 600m overall
  • Freddie came third in the Vortex overall.

Well done to all who competed, it was a fantastic event and one we hope will be repeated in the coming years!
