What an incredible trip we had last week at the London Wetlands Centre for our science topics on habitats. Whilst we were there, we got to do the pond dipping experience where we used nets and traced a figure of 8 in the water to help us collect different pond creatures. We caught a variety of different creatures, such as: dragonfly nymphs, newts, water boatmen and more! We used identifier cards to help us discover what we had caught, checking the features of each creature. Then we answered a series of questions about our creature, such as if it was a carnivore, herbivore, omnivore or a scavenger. We learnt that most of the creatures we had caught were carnivores due to their large eyes compared to the rest of their bodies. We also spotted a range of different birds, such as a grey heron, swans, Egyptian ducks, coots, moorhens and a lot more! Plus, we saw a few adorable sleeping otters.
In English, we have completed our own non-chronological report on Eric’s planet. We have also created our own mini Eric story, keeping the same art style as the author and illustrator Shaun Tan.
In Maths, we have finished our topic on measurement and are now moving onto fractions and time for the rest of this term.
