It is hard to believe that the children are already halfway through the first half of the summer term! This week, they went to Teddington Lock and boarded the Thames Venturer to put their knowledge and skills associated with their rivers topic to use. Amongst the activities were water sampling for temperature and PH level, testing different types of rocks and soil for water permeability and reading maps to identify features. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for all!
In science, the children have started their new topic ‘The circulatory and respiratory systems’. They looked in detail at how blood and oxygen move around the body, labelling and describing each part and their role.
Yoga, which strengthens parts of the brain that play a key role in memory, attention, awareness, thought, and language, has been the focus in Year 6’s indoor PE lessons. With SATs just around the corner, we couldn’t think of a better way for the children to prepare, as well as improving their flexibility, balance and core strength.
In maths, the children have been measuring and classifying angles. They practised with protractors and made sure to use the correct scale, depending on which side they were measuring from.
