While thoughts of secondary schools may be at the forefront of their minds, Year 6 have embarked on their final term with their customary enthusiasm and vigour. This theme of adventure and stepping into the unknown will be a predominant focus of the forthcoming “It’s all Greek” topic.
Within English lessons, the film ‘Francis’ continues to be a source of inspiration, with children writing newspaper stories of the event, creating a journalistic report describing the strange events and Francis Brandywine's disappearance, including local experts and witnesses.
Such analytical thinking has also found its way into recent science lessons, with the classes investigating the different components within a circuit that may affect the brightness of a bulb. This will be taken further next week, encouraging initiated lines of enquiry based upon wire thickness and length, and with comparative and fair testing coming in to play.
With the River Thames right on the doorstep, the children have analysed a variety of maps and satellite photographs to describe its features, making use of geographical terminology such as meander, confluence and sediment.
Without doubt, the highlight has been finding out this year’s production: Joseph. The children cannot wait to get singing and acting, and the staff can’t wait too!
