How can we be in the last half-term of the school year already? It certainly seems like only yesterday that the children entered Year 6, slightly apprehensive over what lay ahead…. and now, here they are!
Rehearsals for ‘Wizard of Oz’ are certainly well under way, with script learning, stage direction and choreographing dances getting the creative juices flowing. The children have designed their costumes in preparation for gathering materials and resources over the next couple of weeks.
Earlier in the week, the children got to travel back in time to the ’90s with author, broadcaster and educator Jeffrey Boakye to meet Kofi and hear all about his music-making adventures. They got to learn about iconic artists, pick up tips on how to write (and rap!) and discover why Kofi and Kelvin are having their best summer ever. The Rose Theatre was alive with music, mischief and lots of laughs!
In English, the children have set sail for the greatest journey of all time: Homer’s Odyssey, reading “The Adventures of Odysseus” and developing storytelling traditions through the creation of storyboards and comic strips, which told of Odysseus’ gruesome encounter with The Cyclops.
An engaging, hands-on learning experience led by ‘The Puzzle Company’, which incorporated puzzles and challenges, saw the class developing their teamwork, problem-solving and thinking skills.
